The King's Birthday
A Day of National Celebration in Honor of Rama X
on July 28th
Every year on July 28th, Thailand comes alive with festivities to celebrate the birthday of its revered monarch, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, known also as Rama X. Established as a national holiday in 2017, this day pays tribute to the tenth king of the Chakri Dynasty, a figure deeply respected and loved by the Thai people.
Born in 1952, King Vajiralongkorn is the only son of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. He was proclaimed Crown Prince at the age of 20, and ascended to the throne on December 1st, 2016, following a period of national mourning for his father. His official coronation, a magnificent display of ancient traditions, took place from May 4th to 6th, 2019, marking his formal accession to the throne.

The King’s Birthday is a time for the people of Thailand to express their unwavering loyalty and deep reverence for the monarchy. Portraits of the King adorn streets and buildings across the nation, while religious ceremonies are held in temples throughout the country. Traditional performances take center stage, adding to the joyous atmosphere. The color yellow, associated with the King, is proudly worn by citizens, and acts of generosity and kindness towards others are encouraged.
This special day is marked by both celebration and reflection. As night falls, brilliant fireworks illuminate the sky, while concerts and traditional Thai dance performances entertain throughout the day. Families and friends gather for festive meals and enjoy the joyful ambiance that permeates every corner of the country.
More than just a commemoration, the King’s Birthday is a time for the people of Thailand to reaffirm their profound connection to the monarchy and celebrate their national identity in a spirit of unity and respect.
