Phuket Aims to Attract an Additional Million Chinese Tourists
With a roadshow spanning three cities in China, Phuket anticipates a surge of a million Chinese visitors this year
The Vice President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization, Anupab Vejwanichsanong, announced on April 22 that a recently held roadshow is expected to draw one million more Chinese tourists to the island by year’s end, according to a report by the Bangkok Post. The boost in tourism is anticipated to contribute around 40 billion baht in revenue to the island’s economy. The ‘Amazing Phuket Roadshow to China 2024’, organized by the PPAO in collaboration with the Phuket Tourist Association led by Thaneth Tantipiriyakit, engaged local tourism stakeholders.
During April 8-12, thirty-five representatives from Phuket’s tourism sector showcased the island’s allure across Guangzhou, Greater Shanghai, and Chengdu. This effort targeted over 70% of the Chinese tourist market segment, as detailed by the Phuket Tourist Association. Phuket welcomed approximately 1.7 million Chinese visitors last year, which was a decline from the 3.1 million recorded in the pre-pandemic period. Through these promotional initiatives, there is a strong optimism to restore Chinese tourist numbers to their former glory by next year.
