\"Two<\/figure>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Most crystals bought for a house end up wherever there was a gap. A console table, the corner of a shelf, the end of a kitchen counter. Six months later nobody looks at them. Crystals in interior design work the way a good lamp works: the room has to be arranged a little around the piece, or the piece quietly disappears into it.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”What crystals in interior design ask of a room” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%230F4C75″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_custom_heading text=”What the room has to give back” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The first decision is quantity, and almost everyone gets it backward. Twelve small stones on a shelf read as a gift shop display. One large piece, placed properly, reads as part of the architecture. The money is better spent on one object than on a collection.<\/p>\n

The second decision is the sightline. Work out where a person stands when they first see the piece, usually a doorway or the turn of a staircase, and build backward from that point. A stone that only works when you are standing over it is a stone nobody sees.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Light does most of the work” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%230F4C75″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Quartz is translucent at its edges, which means it is lit from the side rather than from above. Ceiling downlights are the common mistake. They flatten a geode, wash out the faces and kill the depth of the cavity, and the owner concludes the piece was a disappointment.<\/p>\n

Low, raking light from one side does the opposite. The crystal terminations catch, each one throws a small shadow, and the interior suddenly has depth. A single adjustable spot at a shallow angle costs very little and changes the object completely.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n

\"Amethyst\"Amethyst\"Tall<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Scale, weight, and what it stands on” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%230F4C75″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Below roughly knee height, a geode stops competing with the furniture around it and becomes an accessory. If the piece is meant to anchor a room, it has to be tall enough to hold its own against a sofa.<\/p>\n

Weight is the thing people forget. A cathedral geode is solid rock with a hollow face, and it is considerably heavier than it looks. Ask for the weight before you commit it to a floating shelf, a bracket, or an upstairs room. The base matters just as much. A flat cut base lets a piece stand on its own. An iron stand reads as almost invisible and suits a modern interior. A wood base warms the stone and sits better with teak and rattan. The stand is part of the design decision, not a packaging detail.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n

\"Crystals\"Corner<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”The tropics are hard on certain stones” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%230F4C75″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]This is the part that gets skipped, and it is the part that costs money here. Amethyst fades in sunlight. Months of direct tropical sun through an unshaded window will take a deep purple down to a washed lilac, and it does not come back. Rose quartz, fluorite and celestite behave the same way. Which means the windowsill, the single place everyone wants to put a purple stone, is the one place it should not go. Bright indirect light, always.<\/p>\n

Water and humidity are the second trap. Selenite is a soft, water soluble mineral. A bathroom, a steam room or a spa treatment room will cloud and crumble its surface over time. For wet rooms, quartz, agate and jasper are the sensible families. Third, salt air. Within sight of the water, an untreated iron stand will rust. Ask for a finished or powder coated stand if the house is near the beach.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Choosing for a project, not for a shelf” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%230F4C75″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]No two pieces are the same, so a decor stone cannot be ordered from a photograph the way a sofa can. See it in person, and if you can, see it under light close to the light it will live in.<\/p>\n

For villas and hotels, allow time. Finding a matched pair for a symmetrical entrance, or a piece at one specific height, is a search rather than an order. Start it while the furniture is still being specified, not after everything else has arrived.
