TYBA also participated in several Asian Boating Group virtual meetings where the focus was on a uniform approach throughout Asia of the (temporary) skipper licences which would facilitate and encourage bareboat charters in the Asian Pacific.

Fugazi captures Phuket Raceweek highlighting three days of quality racing
The Andaman Sea shone in all its glory upon the return of the award-winning Phuket Raceweek. After a one-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions, organizers pulled out all the stops and worked with the Thai yachting community to showcase Phuket in all its world-class beauty to put on a successful three-day sailing event.
With so much anxiety, frustration and misery ashore due to all the ongoing problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic it was exhilarating and therapeutic to get in three good days of sailing in near perfect sailing conditions.
Driving awareness through its #PhuketSailing campaign, the organiser’s were laser-focussed on delivering a safe event with lots of on water fun, during these challenging times.
“We discussed holding the event with key members of the local sailing community and they were all keen to go ahead. We moved from our traditional July slot to August to accommodate local needs and while we had to ensure all was in line with local authority rules and COVID measures, the event went off without a hitch and everyone who took part had a great time,” said Byron Jones, Managing Director of organisers Media Business Services Co. Ltd.
Quick to support the 18th Raceweek was the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club, providing the headquarters for the event and the gathering point before and after sailing for all involved. Many other local businesses also supported Phuket Raceweek this year, all keen to showcase sailing and highlight that Phuket is ready and eager to welcome visitors again.
“We have been overwhelmed by the number of local sponsors and supporters, who have stepped up to help us put on the event. It’s certainly been a challenge but hearing all the positive feedback from the sailors and the island community, make it worthwhile,” added Jones.
Racing was held in the popular Chalong Bay from 27th to 29th August and 10 boats took part in three classes.
Phuket’s best sailors signed up for the regatta, most ecstatic for the chance to escape the drudgery of the pandemic for a few days of fun and racing on the water.
The seven-boat Multihull Racking Class had a couple of classes within classes as three of Alan Carwardine’s Stealths entered (Twister 2, Saffron & Fez) and two Fireflys (Twin Sharks & Voodoo) and competed against each other.
Dan Fidock’s Sportsboat Fugazi, helmed by Mark Pescott, with its highly-skilled crew were poised for battle and always compete for top honours in any regatta they enter.
Bonza, the trimaran owned by Mark Thorburrow and skippered by Warwick Downes, the former Commodore of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, drew oohs and aahs throughout the regatta with its ability to claim line finishes and fly hulls as it whizzes by other competitors.
Glywn & Karen Rowlands Stealth 12 Twister 2 competed against Dow Fidock’s Stealth 11.8 Saffron (builder Alan Carwardine skippering) and John Coffin’s Fez with Mick Coleman helming. The Stealths were built close to the start-line at the nearby Asia Catamaran boatyard in Ao Chalong.
Also in the Multihull Racing class, John Newnham’s Twin Sharks and Jojo Tayong’s all-Filipino-crew on Voodoo continued their friendly rivalry as the two boats have dominated the Firefly class for the last few years and are never more than few boat lengths apart when it matters most.
The monohull class had three entrees including Nils Degenklow’s X ¾ ton MK 2 yacht Phoenix. Nils has probably won more races in Phuket waters than almost any other sailor so was the favourite heading in this class heading into the regatta. Paul Merry’s Night Train, a Hanse 415, and Java Yachting’s Mas Alegre, a Steadfast 40, were the other two boats in this class. Andrew McDermott had hoped to join the regatta with his boat Jessandra II and its predominately female crew but Covid restrictions prevented him from making it down from Hua Hin.
Dan Fidock’s Sportsboat Fugazi, skipped masterfully by Mark Pescott had a tremendous performance on the water from the get go winning two races and securing a second-place finish on day one.
Fugazi continued to do well on day two reaching speeds of up to 20 knots, as did Bonza, as the two boats sped through the course. Fugazi took first and second place finishes giving it a three-point advantage.
Mark Pescott continued to do a superb job on day three helming Fugazi, as it edged out Warwick Downes Bonza to take the prestigious top spot in the OMR Sports Multiclass Division with Jason Corall’s Twin Sharks and Jojo Tayong’s all-Filipino-crew on Voodoo finishing in third and fourth spot respectively in the four-boat class..
Alan Carwardine turned in a masterful performance, winning all but one race skippering Saffron (formerly Java) to first place in the OMR Cruising Multihulls. Fez, skipped by Mick Coleman, took second spot while Glywn Rowlands Twister 2 finished third. This was the tightest class by far as the Stealths finished just seconds apart from each other in many of the races.
Nils Degenklow’s Phoenix never lost a race in the regatta and in so doing added to its trophy case winning the IRC Monohull class. The crew on Java Yachting’s Mas Alegre had never sailed together before, but by the third day they were really getting it together and improving their standing, allowing them to tale second overall in the division. Paul Merry’s Night Train claimed third spot in the Multihull Class.
New to Phuket Raceweek this year was a Pursuit Race – the first time such a race has been held during the regatta and possibly the first time in Thailand. Held on the second day, the entire fleet were set off according to their handicap (slowest boat first) and finished off Koh Larn in Chalong Bay. Fugaziclaimed the honours in the Multihulls class while Phoenix came top in the Monohulls class.
Another first this year saw hydrofoil kites and wing foils compete on the final day. Taking out the inaugural wins were Zayyar Wit in the Hydrofoil Kite class and Alejandro Vernis in the Wing Foil class.
Dan and Dow Fidock made Raceweek history by being the owners of boats that won the regatta in two different classes: Fugazi in Multihull Racing and Saffron in Multihull Cruising. Dow has also recently taken over a couple of Lucky 13 franchises and graciously supplied the delicious sandwiches for the sailors and race officials every day.
Rick Fielding read out the winners at a gathering at the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club after the regatta was over reminding all those in attendance that the final awards party will be staged at The Naiharn on Saturday November 13th.
Speaking of the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club, Commodore Brent McInnes must be congratulated for providing a wonderful onshore haven for all the sailors throughout the regatta. Simon James, as usual, did an exceptional job as PRO organizing the on-water management team. Matt McGrath kindly supplied and drove the photography boat.
And a huge round of applause must go out to Byron and Rung Jones, the latter who acted as a foredeck maiden on Saffron throughout the regatta, as they successfully organized & staged a fantastic Phuket Raceweek 2021.
Despite the challenges of putting on an event during a pandemic, the 2021 Phuket Raceweek will be remembered for three days of sailing in near perfect conditions, great camaraderie amongst the participants and a wonderful showcase of Phuket’s hospitality and preparedness.

Where you are located?
Racer Marina is situated at the mouth of Pranburi River, south of Hua Hin. We offer easy access to the sea along with the invaluable security of sheltered moorings.
Is entry & exit dictated by the tides?
We are located up the river so we are dictated by tides, but we keep up to date on the latest tide timetable so everyone knows the optimum times to enter and leave the marina.
How many wet & dry berths do you have?
We have 120 wet berths and 200 dry berths (40 dry berths are dedicated to our covered hardstand)
Please describe your facilities & services.
We have a boat ramp and travel lift. Onsite, we have an international café/restaurant. There’s also a chandlery and our management is fluent in English, French and Thai. There’s 24/7 security service with CCTV. Cars and motorbikes can also be rented through the marina.
E.) What trades are available? Trades are either available on site or willing to come to the marina. We have a an electrician, mechanic and welder on site. Carpenters and painters are available on request.
F.) What is your travel lift capacity?

G.) What are some interesting local attractions?
You can visit the Phraya Nakon Cave, it’s amazing and we have a number of well-known golf courses, e.g. Black Mountain, Springfield, etc. There are also many excellent restaurants and dining options in the Hua Hin area and there is a beautiful Chinese temple looking over the marina.

Hull #20 of Horizon’s popular Fast Displacement (FD) series was delivered on schedule to its new owner last month.
Christened “Tyee”, the tri-deck motoryacht measures 27.45 metres with a 7.11 metre beam and an internal volume of 185 gross tonnage. She features a five-stateroom layout with the master bedroom forward on the main deck and an enclosed full width skyline configuration.
White oak and walnut feature as the main woods throughout the interior, and the elegant yet minimalist décor is further distinguished by floor-to-ceiling windows and white ash flooring.
Additional entertaining spaces are found on the upper decks, which feature dedicated sunbathing areas and al fresco dining as well as an enclosed skyline with a wenge wood games table.
Accommodations for six crew members are situated aft of the engine room housing the twin CAT C18A engines of 1,136hp each. A FD90 can reach a top speed of 19.4 knots, cruising comfortably around a speed of 10-12 knots with a range of 1,700 miles at 10 knots

Clive Parton is an MCA Master Mariner Unlimited with 26 years’ command experience of cruise ships, large yachts, merchant and offshore vessels. He worked for 12 years with Scottish Ship Management, from cadet to chief officer, on commercial vessels after which he was appointed Master of STS Sir Winston Churchill, a three-mast topsail schooner.
Clive was a private pilot with instrument, multi-engine and Jump Pilot ratings and a British Parachute Association Pilot Examiner. He was a formation skydiving coach and former display team member with 1200+ descents.

Parvati (nickname Sine) graduated from Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus with a Bachelor of Business Administration International Program. Prior to joining Galileo Maritime Academy, she was an entrepreneur managing her own businesses for 5 years and working as administrator for the Thai Yachting Business Association and her family accountancy business.

About Garrod
Garrod joined the Royal Navy in 1981 and during his 12-year naval engineering career he served on HM Warships Fearless, Intrepid and Bristol. In 1985 he was selected for service as an engineer on the Royal Yacht Britannia. In 1989 he qualified as a Technical Training Instructor and served with the Naval Apprentice Training Staff, part of the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering at HMS Sultan. Garrod served as Chief Engineer on a number of Superyachts and, prior to joining Galileo, he was Fleet Chief Engineer for Imperial Pacific, managing the maintenance and operation of a fleet of Superyachts.
About Bill
Bill joined the Royal Navy at the age of fifteen, he served on a variety of ships including three Guided Missile Destroyers, two Aircraft Carriers and a Survey Ship. He completed twenty four years’ service working his way through the rank structure. On leaving the RN Bill was employed as an Engineer with the Commonwealth Development Corporation. In 2005 Bill became the Chief Engineer of M/Y Ecstasea, the Royal Van Lent 86 Meter, 34,000 kilowatt gas turbine and diesel powered luxury yacht and served on her for 12 years. Bill holds a Merchant Navy Class One Chief Engineer CoC Motor and a Class Two CoC Combined Steam and Motor. He is an MCA approved examination assessor.

PHUKET OPEN BOAT - Luxury Yacht Inspection
On the 11th and 12th of November, the first edition of “The PHUKET OPEN BOAT” was held. An amazing line-up of 17 luxury yachts was on display for inspection at the Phuket Yacht Haven Marina.
With Lies Sol as one of the main organizers, the yachting companies in Phuket came together to make this new event happen.

Yachts on display were motor yachts, sailing monohulls and catamarans, and luxury custom-built, varying in size from 12m/38 ft to 51m/167 ft.
All companies invited contacts from their network, focusing on inviting luxury yacht and tourism industry professionals.

Everyone mentioned they were happy to participate in such a positive event, showing charter yachts in time for the high season, catching up with colleagues, and making new connections.”

M/Y XANADU OF LONDON just finalized a two-year, multi-million-dollar refit. Captain Mark Wilkinson exclaimed “I was so proud showing her in the event. I don’t think photos do her enough justice, you need to be onboard to appreciate her in all her glory. I’m still just blown away by how good she looks, like a new yacht.“

We were delighted to be able to host the event just before we continue with the installation of the latest-generation pontoons, significantly increasing our berth capacity for superyachts. Yacht Haven Marina and Phuket continue to grow as a world-class boating and charter destination.”
Wired on Water: Fully charged on silent running

When Octopus Electrical proposed running its 73ft charter catamaran on batteries and inverters, we were naturally skeptical. After all we operate an air-conditioned boat with 10 guests and seven crew in isolated areas of Indonesia and the Andaman Sea. But we are more than happy with the results and the guests are enjoying the eco-friendly, quiet system.
As designed, the electrical powering configuration was running one of the two 19kVA generators for up to 24 hours a day, consuming around 90 litres diesel per day. Our custom-built aluminium catamaran was designed with natural ventilation throughout, so when weather permitted we could save on this with up to six hours quiet time per day without refrigerated goods being affected. Now we have 18 hours quiet time and use about 35L per day.
Let us explain the system: A combination of solar, battery, inverter, battery charger and genset delivers seamless power day and night. We are running as follows: genset auto starts around dawn as the batteries are at 10% charge after running our seven AC units and lighting overnight. Our crew are rising for the day and then make use of the genset power to operate the RO watermaker unit and within about three hours the batteries are at 100%, the genset auto stops and the solar power is taking over.
We will then manually manage our main power loads such as the AC and watermaker throughout the day to suit our power availability and guest comfort requirements. What we have found is that providing plenty of ventilation and portable 220v fans throughout is often better than being shut up in air conditioning and not enjoying the tropical environment.
However, the option is always available should the guests want to sleep or enjoy watching movies in AC comfort during the day.
At evening time, the air conditioning is started, the battery charge drops further, and then the genset is started at around 7:30pm. Once again we utilise the genset charging time to use the RO watermaker. Genset stops after three hours and we enjoy peace and quiet throughout the night.
One of the impressive Victron features has been the remote system monitoring and back-up support that this has enabled. This has helped with efficiency optimisation and system support, even from remote locations as long as we have mobile signal.

The feedback has been really positive from the guests who really only notice the silence and lack of diesel emissions, as the power is always on and available. Excluding the massive benefits gained from extended generator life and maintenance costs, we expect the system to pay for itself in diesel savings alone in less than five years!
Duriug COVID, the solar integration system has been a life saver for us, without any customers for 12 month, but we don’t burn any diesel and I live on the boat with my wife and two kids, so its saved our bacon costs wise to say the least. We have all the comforts and no costs.

Full Moon Boat Rally weekend
Royal Phuket Marina staged a luxury Full Moon Boat Rally weekend on 20-21November.
All participants enjoyed the sunny cruising weather and carefully prepared island-hopping itinerary, with lots of fun activities and wonderful meals along the way.

Fugazi captures Phuket Raceweek highlighting three days of quality racing
The Andaman Sea shone in all its glory upon the return of the award-winning Phuket Raceweek. After a one-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions, organizers pulled out all the stops and worked with the Thai yachting community to showcase Phuket in all its world-class beauty to put on a successful three-day sailing event.
With so much anxiety, frustration and misery ashore due to all the ongoing problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic it was exhilarating and therapeutic to get in three good days of sailing in near perfect sailing conditions.
Driving awareness through its #PhuketSailing campaign, the organiser’s were laser-focussed on delivering a safe event with lots of on water fun, during these challenging times.
“We discussed holding the event with key members of the local sailing community and they were all keen to go ahead. We moved from our traditional July slot to August to accommodate local needs and while we had to ensure all was in line with local authority rules and COVID measures, the event went off without a hitch and everyone who took part had a great time,” said Byron Jones, Managing Director of organisers Media Business Services Co. Ltd.
Quick to support the 18th Raceweek was the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club, providing the headquarters for the event and the gathering point before and after sailing for all involved. Many other local businesses also supported Phuket Raceweek this year, all keen to showcase sailing and highlight that Phuket is ready and eager to welcome visitors again.
“We have been overwhelmed by the number of local sponsors and supporters, who have stepped up to help us put on the event. It’s certainly been a challenge but hearing all the positive feedback from the sailors and the island community, make it worthwhile,” added Jones.
Racing was held in the popular Chalong Bay from 27th to 29th August and 10 boats took part in three classes.
Phuket’s best sailors signed up for the regatta, most ecstatic for the chance to escape the drudgery of the pandemic for a few days of fun and racing on the water.
The seven-boat Multihull Racking Class had a couple of classes within classes as three of Alan Carwardine’s Stealths entered (Twister 2, Saffron & Fez) and two Fireflys (Twin Sharks & Voodoo) and competed against each other.
Dan Fidock’s Sportsboat Fugazi, helmed by Mark Pescott, with its highly-skilled crew were poised for battle and always compete for top honours in any regatta they enter.
Bonza, the trimaran owned by Mark Thorburrow and skippered by Warwick Downes, the former Commodore of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, drew oohs and aahs throughout the regatta with its ability to claim line finishes and fly hulls as it whizzes by other competitors.
Glywn & Karen Rowlands Stealth 12 Twister 2 competed against Dow Fidock’s Stealth 11.8 Saffron (builder Alan Carwardine skippering) and John Coffin’s Fez with Mick Coleman helming. The Stealths were built close to the start-line at the nearby Asia Catamaran boatyard in Ao Chalong.
Also in the Multihull Racing class, John Newnham’s Twin Sharks and Jojo Tayong’s all-Filipino-crew on Voodoo continued their friendly rivalry as the two boats have dominated the Firefly class for the last few years and are never more than few boat lengths apart when it matters most.
The monohull class had three entrees including Nils Degenklow’s X ¾ ton MK 2 yacht Phoenix. Nils has probably won more races in Phuket waters than almost any other sailor so was the favourite heading in this class heading into the regatta. Paul Merry’s Night Train, a Hanse 415, and Java Yachting’s Mas Alegre, a Steadfast 40, were the other two boats in this class. Andrew McDermott had hoped to join the regatta with his boat Jessandra II and its predominately female crew but Covid restrictions prevented him from making it down from Hua Hin.
Dan Fidock’s Sportsboat Fugazi, skipped masterfully by Mark Pescott had a tremendous performance on the water from the get go winning two races and securing a second-place finish on day one.
Fugazi continued to do well on day two reaching speeds of up to 20 knots, as did Bonza, as the two boats sped through the course. Fugazi took first and second place finishes giving it a three-point advantage.
Mark Pescott continued to do a superb job on day three helming Fugazi, as it edged out Warwick Downes Bonza to take the prestigious top spot in the OMR Sports Multiclass Division with Jason Corall’s Twin Sharks and Jojo Tayong’s all-Filipino-crew on Voodoo finishing in third and fourth spot respectively in the four-boat class..
Alan Carwardine turned in a masterful performance, winning all but one race skippering Saffron (formerly Java) to first place in the OMR Cruising Multihulls. Fez, skipped by Mick Coleman, took second spot while Glywn Rowlands Twister 2 finished third. This was the tightest class by far as the Stealths finished just seconds apart from each other in many of the races.
Nils Degenklow’s Phoenix never lost a race in the regatta and in so doing added to its trophy case winning the IRC Monohull class. The crew on Java Yachting’s Mas Alegre had never sailed together before, but by the third day they were really getting it together and improving their standing, allowing them to tale second overall in the division. Paul Merry’s Night Train claimed third spot in the Multihull Class.
New to Phuket Raceweek this year was a Pursuit Race – the first time such a race has been held during the regatta and possibly the first time in Thailand. Held on the second day, the entire fleet were set off according to their handicap (slowest boat first) and finished off Koh Larn in Chalong Bay. Fugaziclaimed the honours in the Multihulls class while Phoenix came top in the Monohulls class.
Another first this year saw hydrofoil kites and wing foils compete on the final day. Taking out the inaugural wins were Zayyar Wit in the Hydrofoil Kite class and Alejandro Vernis in the Wing Foil class.
Dan and Dow Fidock made Raceweek history by being the owners of boats that won the regatta in two different classes: Fugazi in Multihull Racing and Saffron in Multihull Cruising. Dow has also recently taken over a couple of Lucky 13 franchises and graciously supplied the delicious sandwiches for the sailors and race officials every day.
Rick Fielding read out the winners at a gathering at the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club after the regatta was over reminding all those in attendance that the final awards party will be staged at The Naiharn on Saturday November 13th.
Speaking of the Phuket Cruising Yacht Club, Commodore Brent McInnes must be congratulated for providing a wonderful onshore haven for all the sailors throughout the regatta. Simon James, as usual, did an exceptional job as PRO organizing the on-water management team. Matt McGrath kindly supplied and drove the photography boat.
And a huge round of applause must go out to Byron and Rung Jones, the latter who acted as a foredeck maiden on Saffron throughout the regatta, as they successfully organized & staged a fantastic Phuket Raceweek 2021.
Despite the challenges of putting on an event during a pandemic, the 2021 Phuket Raceweek will be remembered for three days of sailing in near perfect conditions, great camaraderie amongst the participants and a wonderful showcase of Phuket’s hospitality and preparedness.

We have a boat ramp and travel lift. Onsite, we have an international café/restaurant. There’s also a chandlery and our management is fluent in English, French and Thai. There’s 24/7 security service with CCTV. Cars and motorbikes can also be rented through the marina.

Hull #20 of Horizon’s popular Fast Displacement (FD) series was delivered on schedule to its new owner last month.
Christened “Tyee”, the tri-deck motoryacht measures 27.45 metres with a 7.11 metre beam and an internal volume of 185 gross tonnage. She features a five-stateroom layout with the master bedroom forward on the main deck and an enclosed full width skyline configuration.
White oak and walnut feature as the main woods throughout the interior, and the elegant yet minimalist décor is further distinguished by floor-to-ceiling windows and white ash flooring.
Additional entertaining spaces are found on the upper decks, which feature dedicated sunbathing areas and al fresco dining as well as an enclosed skyline with a wenge wood games table.
Accommodations for six crew members are situated aft of the engine room housing the twin CAT C18A engines of 1,136hp each. A FD90 can reach a top speed of 19.4 knots, cruising comfortably around a speed of 10-12 knots with a range of 1,700 miles at 10 knots

Clive Parton is an MCA Master Mariner Unlimited with 26 years’ command experience of cruise ships, large yachts, merchant and offshore vessels. He worked for 12 years with Scottish Ship Management, from cadet to chief officer, on commercial vessels after which he was appointed Master of STS Sir Winston Churchill, a three-mast topsail schooner.
Clive was a private pilot with instrument, multi-engine and Jump Pilot ratings and a British Parachute Association Pilot Examiner. He was a formation skydiving coach and former display team member with 1200+ descents.

About Garrod
Garrod joined the Royal Navy in 1981 and during his 12-year naval engineering career he served on HM Warships Fearless, Intrepid and Bristol. In 1985 he was selected for service as an engineer on the Royal Yacht Britannia. In 1989 he qualified as a Technical Training Instructor and served with the Naval Apprentice Training Staff, part of the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering at HMS Sultan. Garrod served as Chief Engineer on a number of Superyachts and, prior to joining Galileo, he was Fleet Chief Engineer for Imperial Pacific, managing the maintenance and operation of a fleet of Superyachts.
About Bill
Bill joined the Royal Navy at the age of fifteen, he served on a variety of ships including three Guided Missile Destroyers, two Aircraft Carriers and a Survey Ship. He completed twenty four years’ service working his way through the rank structure. On leaving the RN Bill was employed as an Engineer with the Commonwealth Development Corporation. In 2005 Bill became the Chief Engineer of M/Y Ecstasea, the Royal Van Lent 86 Meter, 34,000 kilowatt gas turbine and diesel powered luxury yacht and served on her for 12 years. Bill holds a Merchant Navy Class One Chief Engineer CoC Motor and a Class Two CoC Combined Steam and Motor. He is an MCA approved examination assessor.

Yachts on display were motor yachts, sailing monohulls and catamarans, and luxury custom-built, varying in size from 12m/38 ft to 51m/167 ft.
All companies invited contacts from their network, focusing on inviting luxury yacht and tourism industry professionals.

Everyone mentioned they were happy to participate in such a positive event, showing charter yachts in time for the high season, catching up with colleagues, and making new connections.”

I don’t think photos do her enough justice, you need to be onboard to appreciate her in all her glory. I’m still just blown away by how good she looks, like a new yacht.“

Wired on Water: Fully charged on silent running

When Octopus Electrical proposed running its 73ft charter catamaran on batteries and inverters, we were naturally skeptical. After all we operate an air-conditioned boat with 10 guests and seven crew in isolated areas of Indonesia and the Andaman Sea. But we are more than happy with the results and the guests are enjoying the eco-friendly, quiet system.
As designed, the electrical powering configuration was running one of the two 19kVA generators for up to 24 hours a day, consuming around 90 litres diesel per day. Our custom-built aluminium catamaran was designed with natural ventilation throughout, so when weather permitted we could save on this with up to six hours quiet time per day without refrigerated goods being affected. Now we have 18 hours quiet time and use about 35L per day.
Let us explain the system: A combination of solar, battery, inverter, battery charger and genset delivers seamless power day and night. We are running as follows: genset auto starts around dawn as the batteries are at 10% charge after running our seven AC units and lighting overnight. Our crew are rising for the day and then make use of the genset power to operate the RO watermaker unit and within about three hours the batteries are at 100%, the genset auto stops and the solar power is taking over.
We will then manually manage our main power loads such as the AC and watermaker throughout the day to suit our power availability and guest comfort requirements. What we have found is that providing plenty of ventilation and portable 220v fans throughout is often better than being shut up in air conditioning and not enjoying the tropical environment.
However, the option is always available should the guests want to sleep or enjoy watching movies in AC comfort during the day.
At evening time, the air conditioning is started, the battery charge drops further, and then the genset is started at around 7:30pm. Once again we utilise the genset charging time to use the RO watermaker. Genset stops after three hours and we enjoy peace and quiet throughout the night.
One of the impressive Victron features has been the remote system monitoring and back-up support that this has enabled. This has helped with efficiency optimisation and system support, even from remote locations as long as we have mobile signal.

Full Moon Boat Rally weekend
Royal Phuket Marina staged a luxury Full Moon Boat Rally weekend on 20-21November.
All participants enjoyed the sunny cruising weather and carefully prepared island-hopping itinerary, with lots of fun activities and wonderful meals along the way.
It was the perfect luxury getaway for boat owners, friends and family, who all had a great time together out on the wide range of boats that joined and made Royal Phuket Marina’s Full Moon Boat Rally such a pleasant weekend!
